LI: To explore the world in 1840 and the art of the Treaty
Treaty of Waitangi Art DLO by Hector Silipa
This week we looked at the what the world was like in 1840. Did you know in 1840 when you sent a letter to someone you or the person you sent it to would have to pay for it! After this we identified some of the key people and their role in the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. I found it interesting that Henry Wiliams, His son and Wiliam Colsenco were the only people that helped with the traslating from English to Maori. We then used the information from both of these activities to help us read a painting of the day the treaty was signed. We used our knowledge to infer what the artist Marcus King might have wanted us to think was happening.
I found this really interesting because in 1840 Americans still owned slaves for around 25 years which shocked me.
Hello Paul, Your Treaty of Waitangi was interesting, I did not know you had to pay for the letter you send to the person in 1840. The thing I liked about it is that Henry Williams, his son and William Colsenco were the only people that helped with the traslating from English to Maori.
How did William help with the traslating from English to Maori?
